Adios Austin!
Megan and I will be leaving on a jet plane from Austin to New Orleans. From New Orleans, we'll make our way to Atlanta via car and after Atlanta, we'll travel our way up to Charleston. Our final leg of the trip will be to Washington D.C.
Until then, adios Austin, I'll miss you beyond what words can explain. You've been my home for the last four years and I don't think leaving you will be easy but don't fret, I'll find my way back to you soon, somehow. I'm just taking a little time away from you so that I can learn to appreciate once again all that I have and all that I've been blessed with in this life. Along the way, I'll be giving back to help those that have lost a little faith and hope. I'll refocus myself so that when I do come back, I'll be a better person with a better story full of gratitude, optimism, kind thoughts, hope, forgiveness, patience, and trust.
Don't miss me too much because I know I'll be missing you enough for the both of us.
Until Soon.

My Map To Feeding Hunger
Here's a little commercial that I found from Feeding America. This is the organization that I will be dedicating my time to during the trip. Each food bank I visit will be a Feeding America sponsored food bank. The message of the commercial is simple: "all of us need each other and that's what we're here for, to help one another." Today, 1 out 6 Americans are desperate and needy for food. Whose the sixth person in your life?
The following is my map and road that I will take on this trip.

Be Kind To Others...
Plato once said, "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a harder battle."
How amazing is it to think that the people at Feeding America care 7 days a week. Hunger doesn't take a break on the weekends friends. So if you have anytime on your weekends, remember to stay kind and smile at others. Don't fret over the small stuff and take a second and find out how you're going to help those that need it the most. It doesn't need to be my cause but you should find something that makes you feel as if you're making an impact on those that need it the most.

How You Can Help Feed America!
So I'm sure you all are thinking, I'd love to help others and feed America but I just don't have any time in the world to do what you're doing, Kathy! What can I do to help?
Well friends, there's so much you can do to make an impact that doesn't involve going to drastic extremes like I am to travel to 4 cities (New Orleans, Atlanta, Charleston, and DC) and work in the food banks.
Feeding America is an amazing non-profit organization that connects needed food to those that are finding their life a little difficult at the moment. 98% of the money that they receive goes DIRECTLY to stocking up those food banks across the nation. 98% is A LOT folks.
So here's how you can help: 1) take a minute and realize how blessed you are to have the amazing life you are leading. 2) go to www.feedingamerica.org and check out their donation section. 3) read that $1.00, A DOLLAR!!, can provide SEVEN meals to men, women, and children that are struggling with hunger today. Goodness, who knew A DOLLAR could go so far.
And if you think you want more to do than advocate! Advocate, Advocate, Advocate! Write a letter to your Congresspeople for those that feel that their voice, their struggle, their lives have been forgotten in the hustle and bustle of our world. For now, tell them to focus on the Child Nutrition Reauthorization letter.
Hopefully, you all take the time to consider what it might be like to know you might not have a meal from breakfast to dinner. How awful would your day be? How tired would you be? How weak would your mind and body be? Food is not only a basic need but it's also something that provides nutrition and a chance to keep trying and to an opportunity to contribute.
Until Soon!
Facing the faces of hunger.
I am someone with a great desire to make a deep and profound impact on the lives of those who feel that they have been forgotten or lost in the world. For me a road trip is about finding a way to repay the world for all the gifts and good that has occurred within my life. This means giving back to those that are less fortunate than I have been in my life and making sure they understand that someone in this world cares for them and appreciates their existence.
I would like to take a journey across certain cities of America and working at food banks sponsored by Feeding America, a non-profit organization, along the way. Feeding America is an organization that is dedicated to “providing food for Americans living with hunger.” According to their research, 1 in every 6 Americans are living with the idea that they may not be able to eat a complete meal for the day. An even scarier thought than that is that 1 in 4 children in America are living in “food insecured” homes (FeedAmerica.org). This trip would be taken with my best friend Megan, who also has a shared passion to help others.
I plan on flying from Austin to New Orleans and from New Orleans, renting a car and driving to Atlanta and than Charleston. From Charleston, I prefer to fly to D.C. I think that it would be fair to travel that way. Fortunately, we have friends or family in 4 out of the 5 cities we’re traveling to. Renting a hotel in Charleston, the car, a couple flights covered by frequent flyer miles, food, and other expenditures will probably cost us around $2050 per person. We didn't include gas because lucky for us, our parents will/have provided us with gas cards.
Before I volunteer at any of these food banks, I plan on scheduling the days that I would like to volunteer on and turning in all necessary paper work before I arrive. In New Orleans, I plan on volunteering at the Second Harvest. After volunteering for a few days in New Orleans, I’ll move onto Atlanta’s Community Food Bank. From Atlanta, Megan and I will give our time to the Charleston’s Lowcountry Food Bank. Our final stop will be in Washington D.C., at the Capital Area Food bank.
